Wedding Vows Dos and Don’ts

Preparing for your vows can be so exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Here are a few reminders as you prepare:

DO:

  • Practice reading your vows out loud.
  • Use a microphone when reading them during the ceremony. (Everyone wants to hear them!).
  • Speak from your heart.
  • Look your partner in the eye.
  • Review vows with your officiant.
  • Discuss the tone of the vows (casual versus formal).

DON’T:

  • Read off of a cell phone. Have your vows printed or written in a booklet/paper.
  • Rewrite your vows over and over and over and over. Don’t stress, they will be perfect. You know what you want to say. As mentioned above, speak from your heart.
  • Mention your ex or be too specific with your past and how it got you to this moment.
  • Talk for 5+ minutes.
  • Make it embarrassing or share too much personal information.
