Wedding Vows Dos and Don’ts
Preparing for your vows can be so exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Here are a few reminders as you prepare:
DO:
- Practice reading your vows out loud.
- Use a microphone when reading them during the ceremony. (Everyone wants to hear them!).
- Speak from your heart.
- Look your partner in the eye.
- Review vows with your officiant.
- Discuss the tone of the vows (casual versus formal).
DON’T:
- Read off of a cell phone. Have your vows printed or written in a booklet/paper.
- Rewrite your vows over and over and over and over. Don’t stress, they will be perfect. You know what you want to say. As mentioned above, speak from your heart.
- Mention your ex or be too specific with your past and how it got you to this moment.
- Talk for 5+ minutes.
- Make it embarrassing or share too much personal information.
