Rain or Shine Outdoor Ceremony
You have opted to have your ceremony outside! You envision it to be a perfect weather day, no rain, just the right temperature, but you need to prepare for inclement weather, JUST IN CASE!
Inclement weather could be extremely hot, cold, rainy, snowy etc.
Options to prepare for inclement weather
Tent
- Depending on the venue, consider tenting the space.
- Tents can go on grass or cement, but will require ways to anchor into the ground.
Heaters
- Rental companies can provide these portable heaters for you.
- Confirm with the venue they are allowed.
Umbrellas/Blankets/Hand Warmers/Hand Fans
- Offer these to guests as they arrive at your ceremony to help keep them comfortable.
- This could be an opportunity to customize the hand out and have dual usage as the favor!
Patio Umbrellas
- Place these throughout the seating area for guests if the sun will be directly hitting them on a hot day to give them some shade!
Fans/Misters
- On a hot day fans and misters are a glorious treat! Place throughout the seating area for guests if the sun will be directly hitting them on a hot day to keep them cool!
- Confirm with the venue they are allowed.
- Double check how loud they are, some larger industrial fans can be extremely noisy and disrupt the ceremony.
A few additional pro tips when planning an outdoor ceremony
- Consider the sunset and time of day of your ceremony. Will you be looking directly into the sun? Will your guests?
- Wind can be a nuisance and affect the bride’s hair, have her facing down wind so her hair will blow out of her face.
- This may be a last minute change, but it will be worth it!
- If getting married in grass, and it rains days prior to the wedding, the ground may be wet. If the ground is wet, the chairs will sink in the grass, dresses may get muddy and heels will sink when people walk. Consider moving the ceremony location, adding flooring or plan to walk on softer ground!
